Kelan grew up in Hamlin County and is a graduate of Hamlin High School. He and his wife, Torrie have a 5 year old daughter Kennedy and a new baby boy Quinn James was born May 2014.
In 2005 Kelan opened A to Z Moving Company and A to Z Used Furniture & Appliances which he subsequently sold. In 2009 Kelan attended auctioneer school and received his license. Since then he has conducted auctions throughout eastern South Dakota.
