Michaela was the most difficult tenant of my career. she would frequently not respond to texts, emails and phone calls for weeks to months at a time making it very difficult to address any issues. She was late on rent (past the 10th) 5 times in the 10 months she lived in the unit. On move out she left behind a floor to ceiling stack of personal items she no longer wanted. After 10 months we allowed her to sublet the unit. Michaela never delivered the keys to her subleter who showed up with all of her belongings at night in New Haven with no way to get into the building. We let her subleter in after she called us in a panic. After all of this we kept $100 (hardly a substantial sum) of her security deposit (despite just the late fees owed being over $400) because we knew she was a recent grad and we were trying to do the right thing. After she insisted we should return the $100 we told her to sue if she truly felt wronged.
