A response is important here, as this is the first negative review I have had in 10 years of business and 4,000+ inspections. Client from an inspection 2 weeks ago (as of this writing the home is still pending and vacant) called me on a Sunday afternoon, I answered. Client accused me of a substandard inspection because the laundry fan was loud and kicking out dust and they could smell gas in the garage at the furnace area and wanted me to come out with the listing agent. 1) The 20+ year old furnace was not leaking gas at the time of inspection; I carry a combustion meter and check all connections and valves if I smell gas. I did call for a cleaning and further evaluation by a qualified heating contractor, which from my understanding has not happened. 2) I test all exhaust fans in the home and verify termination to the exterior. It’s true I don’t have a drop-down menu in my reporting software on the exhaust fans cleanliness and dust level. However, If I see an issue with the exterior termination (as I did in this home) I recommend repair, which again has not happened. 3) I did not laugh at the client or dismiss their concerns & questions. These issues could and should be remedied by following the findings and recommendations in the report. This was a contentious phone call on a Sunday afternoon and could have been handled better by both parties to deescalate the situation. This home is not new construction and is 20+ years old and I’m thinking this is where some of the disconnect is coming from, client hung up on me as I was trying to discuss and review the report with them and immediately took to the internet to ruin my on-line reputation, which is unfortunate but is the action taken by some folks I guess.
