This is not entirely true. I did respond to the number, and I may add a it was pretty quick response to a person looking for a home, a man answered, I identified myself, and stated I was returning Mrs. Barrett’s call. He demanded that I tell him who I represented and the purpose of my call. Not entirely in a threatening manner, but very close. I did not answer his demands but did leave my name and number and stated she can call me back or not. It seems they added “I don't care" for embellishment. Probably because I would not answer his demands and they wanted to damage me with this post. Since I take privacy issues very seriously, I do not communicate information to individuals that I am not familiar with. How was I to know this person was her husband? Could he be someone else, or could he be someone that Mrs. Barrett was planning to move without? Maybe he was not aware of her plans. What potential danger could I create for her if this was the case and I told him she was calling about a house in Spartanburg He would not put her on the phone so, for me, that indicated something was not right. Maybe there was a pending separation or was this man an extremely jealous and/or controlling person that would not allow her to speak to me. I had no way of knowing who he was or what the circumstances were. I thought it was very suspicious that he would not hand the phone to her. In any event it seemed to me that if this person is that controlling or jealous it is not like a situation I wanted to get in the middle of. If someone calls our phone and asks for my wife, I hand her the phone because they asked for her not me. So when Ms. Barrett called back, we spoke and she explained that the person I spoke to was her husband. I did tell her I did not like to talk to a "gate keeper" which is true and I was offended by his attitude and his tone. This comment is not exactly correct either I never said “I don't want to work with people like you, good luck on finding a home in SC and hangs up on us.” What I said was, I would be unable to help them, but wished them good luck in finding a home in Spartanburg. I did say goodbye then hung up. It has been a blessing for me to have been a real estate agent for over 35 years and although 99% of my transactions have been smooth and happy events, I have been in those type situations before and am not interested in participating in another. Therefore it was my judgment that another agent could serve them better.
