Tahquamenon Falls are about a hour north, as is Whitefish Point on Lake Superior. The ferries to Mackinac Island area a 25 min. drive. Sault Ste. Marie and the Soo Locks, are 45 min. northeast. The lake has 3 pairs of nesting loons, that fill the air with the pristine sound of nature. Great spot for birding. If you love birds you will be in paradise. Eagles, hummingbirds, pileated woodpeckers, kingfishers, warbles, many more types of water fowl. This is the place to really escape. Easy access on good roads. Very few houses on this thousand acre lake, as 75% of the shoreline is owned by the national forest.
