This beautiful little island is located in the wild and scenic island-studded western part of the lake with great views in all directions. It is aprox. .36 of an acre in size and has aprox. 400 feet of gorgeous Burntside Lake shoreline. St Louis County Planning and Zoning says: "The island is too small to build a structure on unless a variance was obtained because it is less than 1/2 acre. Options that would be allowed would include a day use site, a campsite for personal use, recreation, etc. No structures would be allowed on the property, but a landowner may have a platform that is no larger than 120 square feet and no higher than 18 inches off the ground. The platform cannot have any railings, seats, trellises, or other features. The platform must be at least 10 feet from the shoreline. A fire ring is also a possibility as long as all the local and state regulations are met. A dock may also be allowed on the parcel as long as all DNR standards are met." They also recommend contacting the On-Site Wastewater Division to discuss options for human waste if the parcel is used for camping. Burntside Lake is in a class of its own here in the Ely area with its large size, crystal clear waters, great fishing, fantastic scenery, and direct access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The island has some beautiful tree cover including many pines, and a nice open ledgerock area in the middle. Own your own island on Burntside Lake!!
