Reach out if you are interested, and I can email you a link to a video walk-through, too. Meet THE CREEK HOUSE - a pretty little private "compound" in the Happy Valley area in Santa Cruz. (Please check a map -- we are NOT walking distance to town, nor on a bike route to UCSC.) An idyllic country setting with a modern, farmhouse-style home designed for indoor/outdoor living but only 10 minutes to town. The Creek House has been totally modernized over the last 9 months -- a brand new kitchen (actually, a Henrybuilt kitchen, rescued from a SF Eichler!), a brand new sunny patio, landscaping with irrigation, brand new appliances, and gorgeous new hard wood floors. It's a very "Santa Cruz" house, with it's own magical chapel-like, separate office space, an outdoor bathtub, and a free-standing wood-burning fireplace in the living room. (Note: there is either propane or electric heaters in all rooms -- the fireplace is more for coziness!) Laid out like a mini "compound", you walk through an old iron gate and pass through a walkway covered in and surrounded by roses. You walk into a big sunny courtyard with charming little wooden buildings all around. One building is an old goat shed, which is now storage, as needed. Another building is the majestic "chapel" which is a great office space, filled with light, wood and high-end Italian lighting (there is heat in this space, too). The entrance to the main house is on your right, off the courtyard. You enter into the kitchen area which spills right into the living room, complete with a wood-burning stove. (Note, there is heat in every habitable space, so the stove is for ambiance, but doesn't need to do the full-time job of heating.). The kitchen is newly installed -- an incredible built-in Henrybuilt kitchen (look it up!) rescued from a midcentury Eichler home in SF. The kitchen is large -- so big that it houses the (brand new) washer and dryer off in the back corner and has a little table / workspace too. Brand new fridge. Appliances are modern, awesome and in great working condition. Tons of windows run throughout the kitchen and all along the long wall of the living room. They all open, close tight. Brand new lighting throughout. It's a bright, light, warm and cozy kitchen/great-room space! The bedrooms and the en-suite bathroom (a shared bathroom between the 2 bedrooms) are accessible off the main living room, via a covered walkway. The master bedroom is huge, with 2 sets of sliding glass doors, looking out on nature and trees. It has a large walk-in closet and nice, warm lighting. The second bedroom is smaller, with no built-in closet, but nice high windows with sun streaming in from the courtyard. The one bathroom is outfitted with a shower and brand new toilet, sink and lighting. Each bedroom has access to the large, roomy bathroom. Around the back of the house, encircled by bamboo and Japanese maples is the fully plumbed, outdoor bathtub. (yes - totally santa cruz!) The Creek House has a brand new roof and gutters, good for the next 50 years. Good dogs welcome, with a pet deposit. We would like to meet them first. But know that the yard is not currently fully dog-secure. You'd want to invest in some additional fencing to be sure it's secure for your pet. Outdoor cats are not advised - this is the country, after all. Indoor cats are tricky at this house, as you need to go outside to move throughout the house. So cats are probably not a good idea. Sorry! It is 7 minutes to Happy Valley Elementary School, a California Distinguished School. It is 10 minutes to Santa Cruz town (Ocean and Water or Shopper's Corner and Whole Foods Market), 10 minutes to Scotts Valley, and 10 minutes to Soquel / Blue Ball Park / Bay Street exit, via the back-roads (Soquel-San Jose Road). Lots of ways in and out! If you commute over the hill, it's 5 minutes up to highway 17 (exit Vine Hill). There is great, high-speed Comcast Internet available here. We landlords now live about 15 minutes away, but we are still in Santa Cruz, should you or the house need anything. The neighborhood is kind, hard-working, and welcoming. Everyone looks out for one another. Lots of Happy Valley Elementary School families here, and lots of great families without kiddos too. Don't let the country setting fool you -- Trick-or-Treating is small but epic on our street! A maximum of 2 people allowed in the Creek House. 2 outdoor (not covered) parking spots are available for a max 2 cars. In addition to the rent listed, there will be a propane cost (tank filled as needed, roughly every 6 weeks; you have your own dedicated propane tank, so you only pay for what you use.) You will also cover your own electricity bill, but that is lower than the norm, as the whole property has solar panels contributing electricity. There will, though, be a PG&E bill to cover each month. No more than 2 tenants, please (we are on well water and have a septic system which we don't want to stress.) It's a 12-month lease beginning in July, some time (TBD), then month to month after that. The rental price includes: Rent, Garbage, Water (we have a shared well with our up the hill neighbor). The rental price does not include - i.e. YOU are responsible for also paying for: Electricity, Internet, Phone, Cable, and Propane (washer / dryer, gas range and the on-demand hot water system are all propane powered). It is a solar property, with solar panels on the carport, which hugely reduces the cost of electricity on the property, but there are PG&E bills. A major feature for the property is a whole-house generator. Should electrical power go out at any time, count to 8 (seconds) and the generator will kick in and run off its own dedicated propane tank. It will power the full house. NOTE: THIS IS COUNTRY LIVING. Power goes out. Trees fall down. All the usual country-living stuff.
