This wilderness island property offers supreme privacy with a breath-taking view of Mt. Katahdin. The turn-key operation reveals a full off-grid infrastructure and many conveniences for a remote location. The 2.3 acre parcel is neatly groomed from one end of the island to the other. Privacy and natural beauty is the hallmark of this one-of-a-kind wilderness property. Easy docking access by water (including seaplane access) is also a strong feature of the island paradise. It’s a bit out of the way, but way out of the ordinary.
Main features include a 40-foot by 24-foot main cabin constructed primarily of cedar. The ground floor includes a glass/screened-in front porch with full view of the Katahdin mountain range. A 24x8 foot deck stretches out beyond the porch on the front of the camp. Storage area is provided beneath the cabin with full skirting and access panels for utilities and storage. A sleeping loft is located above the primary living space. There is a small bath with shower, toilet, and lavatory serviced by a gray water system that makes it difficult to remember that this is a remote camping location. The camp is also equipped with a gravity fed system that provides water to the main building. A Berkefeld filtering system dispenses drinking water right from the kitchen sink. A gasoline-powered generator provides electricity for power tools and a mechanical water pump that fills a 316-gallon reservoir that serves the water needs for the main cabin. In addition to the main cabin, there is an 18’ x 12’ sleeping cabin that is well insulated for cold weather camping. Additional out buildings include a tool shed, privy, and wood shed.
Added interest is a national register historical site known as the Ambajejus Lake Boomhouse. It has been restored for the preservation of the river driving history of the Great Northern Paper Company. This is the same region explored by Henry David Thoreau in 1846, 1853, and 1857. His book, “In the Maine Woods” was published in 1864 before the closest community (Millinocket) began to construct its paper mill in 1899. This museum is shown in the last photograph. At a mile’s distance, this is our closest neighbor.
This property is in full compliance with the State of Maine Land Use Planning Commission who determines that property owners have abided by the rules and regulations of unorganized territories in this state.
