Our farm-school is 30 acres of meadows and forest land. It is highly landscaped with herb/vegetable/flower gardens, fruit orchards, silviculture (150 sugar maples and 300 nursery trees), arbors with grapes/kiwi/wisteria, and buildings. We use only renewable energy to generate electricity (solar and wind with 9 kW capacity). Heating is done with high-efficiency heat pump and outdoor wood burner. We are a near zero waste facility receiving community leaves/bark chips/horse manure for worm composting of food waste. The farm uses Joe Jenkin’s Humanure techniques to handle human waste with 4 loveable loos and a humanure hacienda on site. The water source is a spring running an average 2 gallons per minute which also feeds a ½ acre pond and 6500 gallon holding tanks (5 tanks total from spring water, surface water, and roof water collections). We incorporate art projects throughout the farm-school with 3 stained glass mosaics, a medicine wheel, earthen oven, earthen benches, a living wall with sedums, a stone patio, and many stone walls.
