From the street, Gougeon's board and batten, stucco-clad adaptation of the region's popular ranch-style home yields an aesthetic which seamlessly conforms to the traditional design of the growing suburbs of the East San Gabriel Valley. Although a sense of conformity defines the public view from the street, the interior of the design counters it with a profound exercise in modernity. Extensive use of glass walls throughout the interior eliminate any barrier between the natural and built environment, thus engaging in a dialogue with Aguilar's contribution to the property's footprint. Commissioned by Atlantic Savings and Loan as part of a larger development, Gougeon's unassuming facade provides insight into the relationship between modernism and conforming design during the growth and development of the East San Gabriel Valley.
