Ah, the Maryland. A lovelier historic hauntââ¬âperched on South Temple, between L and Mââ¬âyou'd be hard pressed to find. We love the Maryland for myriad reasons; yes, South Temple is one of SLC's prettiest streets, and she's peppered with stately structures from head to toe, but the Maryland is arguably one of her most striking. Built in 1912, the Maryland was designed by, built, and lived in by architect Bernard Mecklenburg, as a space for wealthy miners to inhabit while they waited for their mansions to be built (oh, the struggle). The result is an ornate and impeccably well-dressed Neo-Classical structure. If oversized corridors, dreamy vintage woodwork, and intricate tile and marble in the common areas weren't enough, we think this second-floor unit will win you over in a hurry. It's bright, neat as a pin, and damn near perfect. French doors divide-but-unite the sitting and dining areas, and natural light pours in both (that fresh coat of paint is doing all sorts of favors, here). The kitchen, though modestly-sized, holds a place for everything, and we think you'll find it's well within the "just right" range. What this space lacks in McMansion-size status, it more than makes up for in timeless charm (did we mention that marble?) and a pitch-perfect location (we can personally attest that the beauty of South Temple never gets old). The spaces in the Maryland are historic in all the right ways, and the interiorsââ¬âwhile variedââ¬âare all uniquely fantastic (check out Cody Derrick's moody interior and Marc Anthony's eclectic flat for the scoop on the neighbors' spaces). A blank slate like this (in such a sought-after 'hood) doesn't come around often. Won't you be our neighbor? Square footage figures are provided as a courtesy estimate only.
