... Neighborhood Description All residential properties in the immediate area are 1-7.5 acres with woods and/or pastures. The community of Winslow (on the island) is a 7 minute drive and has a Safeway/Rite-Aid shopping center, medical clinics, 5-screen cinema, post office, banks, waterfront park, fitness club, golf course, boutique shops, little theater, branch library, waterfront pub, neighborhood coffee houses and bakeries, and some newer condominium/village/mixed-use areas - this is a very small town. Fire and emergency medical services are excellent. The island has an agricultural heritage but has become primarily a bedroom community for Seattle because of its easy commute (35 minute ferry ride) and its rural character. Access to Poulsbo (20 minutes) Naval Submarine Base Bangor (30 minutes), and Silverdale (40 minutes) are via the bridge at the north end of the island. Island population is about 25,000. With some of the very best schools and lowest crime rates in the state, Bainbridge Island was voted CNN's second-best place in the USA to live in 2006.
