We built this log home in 1995 as a small retreat. Since then, we have expanded it to include a large family room with spectacular 180 degree views of the Madison Range and Madison River. We can see up and down the length of the river valley for over 40 miles. Check out the photos. We currently own 66 acres of contiguous lots (8 lots) providing plenty of distance from other homesites. Note that the home is located on lot 75 not lot 76. Total footage is about 1500.The cabin consists of a 300 sqaure foot loft/master bedroom, a combined dining room and kitchen with 20 feet ceilings, and the family room mentioned. A spiral stairwell leads to a lower floor containing a 350 foot bedroom with a handbuilt, Queen-size log bunk bed. There is also a kitchenette with stove, microwave, and fridge, and a bathroom with shower. Finally, there is a laundry and storage room with washer and dryer. We designed the lower floor so it could be used as a separate unit for guests. Outside this lower floor is a spacious terrace where we have placed exercise equipment. Two large windows look out on the terrace and Madison Range and River. We heat the house using either a cast iron, gas-burning stove or electrical baseboard heating. Because of the home’s large number of picture windows facing south, the winter sun alone often keeps the home warm. A porch and deck face east and west with views of the Madison and Gravelly ranges. We’ve created walkways over the front and side lawns lined with beautiful tan and brown rocks taken from our other properties. We’ve built cedar walkways connecting the parking area to the first and second floors. And we’ve planted Canadian Cherry trees to augment the native Limber Pine surrounding the home. On the west, windward side of the home we’ve created a barrier of Russian Olive as a wind block. Since 1995, the owner has built using cedar wood, old barn wood, or log a large workshop, a fenced-in enclosure for storing large items, and a childrens’ playhouse, fort, and swings. As well, there is a custom built unit that serves as another workshop or storage unit. In 2018, we installed a bank of solar panels that, given the property's exposure to abundant sunshine, has eliminated the need to purchase electricity much of the time. We own seven adjacent lots comprising 60 acres. All electrical lines are underground, so there are no powerlines to detract from the view. Our nearest neighbor lives on the other side of a hilly knoll, meaning we and our neighbor enjoy privacy. We have a complete security system as well as neighbors who look out for each other. A look at the property on Google maps will give you an idea of the extraordinary views from the property. At an elevation of 5800 feet, every place on the property offers stunning views. As mentioned earlier, the view from our living room offers an unparalled vista of Madison Valley and the Madison River.
