I am subleasing a studio apartment for $510 a month and shared utilities. For this particular studio, the landlord charges 18.33% of the buildings use, so since I've been there my utilities have been around $70-$80, so under $100. The internet is through Midco, I had my own modem and paid $40 a month, if you have to rent a modem they charge $8 so the bill will be around $48. This studio is located in/near the historic downtown Lawrence area, close to KU, but just enough away that it's in a quieter neighborhood. The studio is part of a house that has been converted into 4 different apartments (3 studios and 1 two-bedroom). There are four units in this house, three on the main floor and one upstairs. The unit that I am subleasing is unit #3, which is located on the main floor and on the east side which gets plenty of morning and daylight (for those who love the sun and/or have plants). When you walk into the house there is a common hallway and then you enter the apartment on the right from the common area. Once you enter the unit, you will walk into the living space/bedroom. There is a fireplace that is not functional but adds to the aesthetic of the unit. There is also a small closet that has a hanging rod and three shelves. There is a separate entryway where you enter into the kitchen. The kitchen comes with a full-size refrigerator, a small gas stove, kitchen sink, and cabinet space. If you keep walking past the kitchen you will enter the bathroom. The bathroom has cute little french doors and a clawfoot bathtub, and in August a new shower head and faucet handles were installed. The house has central heat/air, and the thermostat for all units is controlled by unit #1. The temperature is set for both comfort and efficiency. During the summer the thermostat typically is set between 70-72 and during the winter between 70-75 degrees, and you can communicate with the person in unit #1, if you need the air/heat adjusted.
The deposit for this unit is $510 with a $40 application fee. The application form outlines particulars on what the rental/management company looks for when they process your application. The deposit will likely be due upon approval of your application. Unfortunately, no pets are allowed in this unit, you are allowed, however, to have a fish tank no larger than 10 gallons. I'm subleasing this unit due to an early graduation for my Masters and a job offer in Virginia. Please feel free to contact me with additional questions that I may not have addressed in this post or contact the management company.
Since I'm in the process of moving the unit is currently empty, however, the photos will illustrate how I had the apartment set up! So if you schedule an appointment for a viewing, the space you will see will be unfurnished.
Utilities are shared, this unit is responsible for 18.33% of the building use.
