GHPOA is mostly surrounded by State Forest Preserve Lands of the Adirondack Park and is classified by the Adirondack Park Agency as "Wilderness" which provides for the most stringent development restrictions on any land in the park. GHPOA offers a private beach, picnic and canoe launch area on pristine 13th Lake, a three-mile long lake connected to the community. There are also two tennis courts and three tree plantations in the common lands. Activities in and around Garnet Hill include, cross country skiing on Garnet Hill Lodge's 50 km of trails, hiking to ponds and peaks surrounding 13th Lake and swimming from Garnet Hill's beach. Downhill skiing at Gore Mountain is just 15-minutes away and there are whitewater activities on the Hudson River.
