Chalet la Zagara The picturesque view of Hunter Mountain’s ski slopes so intricately carved into the face of the Catskill Mountains is what “stole the heart” of interior designer Catherine LaMarca and her husband. In the early 2000’s this rustic 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath log home was constructed to capture the beauty of nature in its most pristine and unrefined form. Sitting high on a hill upon 10+ rolling acres in New York’s country side, the interiors of this rustic 3500+ square foot European log home are just as aesthetically pleasing as its seemingly un-touched counterpart. Catherine’s interior design includes vivid patterns, zesty colors and unique lighting fixtures that not only awaken but also rejuvenate the soul. The authentic Durango limestone color of the main floor inspires the creamy tones and sets the ambiance for the perfect weekend retreat. The living area with a spectacular mountain-side view framed by oversized window panes is well designed to reflect some French flair with high ceiling, and exposed trusses and delivers an astonishing view of Hunter Mountain ski slopes. The massive fireplace commissioned for this project and carved from solid pieces of Durango limestone provides an additional focal point in the room as well as sets out to warm up the most chilling of nights. The open floor plan allows you to strategically place your furniture to optimize the view as well as enjoy the beautiful fire or watch a movie on TV. The kitchen has all high-end stainless steel appliances along with signature cherry wood cabinetry and a farm sink. The backsplash behind the WOLFE stove is covered in handmade Italian ceramic title. The imported Statuary Calcutta marble counter tops, undoubtedly one of the most luxurious materials in the world, add that gorgeous, high-end desirable look. The grand island and open dining area permits room for entertaining and traditional celebrations. Down the hall you will find 2 bedrooms and 1½ bathrooms. The ½ bathroom or powder room is beautifully designed, the floor is covered with marble with an antiqued finish, and the walls are tiled up to 4 feet in a combination of stone and artisan hand-painted Majolica pottery, imported from Italy. The upper walls are finished with an attractive and elegant 3D Venetian stucco finish that enhances the light and dark tones creating a classic European look. The vanity was designed and built in Tuscany with a combination of wood and wrought iron. Sconces are high-end signature Italian lighting imported from Italy as well. As a final touch, the faucet is Rohl with a hand rubbed bronze finish. The Main Bath is a combination of a bit country and a bit contemporary. All faucets are Italian contemporary fixtures and the walls are a combination of handmade white ceramic tiles and 1x1 Bisazza glass mosaics for that flawless appearance. All plumbing fixtures are Kohler, faucets are Rohl in polished chrome and all accessories are signature in cast bronze and hand wrought iron. The 550+/- square foot loft that includes the master suit over-looks the living room and has a master bath that creates the feel of a personal day spa in a weekend getaway. The master bath includes a steam shower as well as a luxuriously sized soaking tub. The custom vanity includes a grey limestone counter top with a sink that was carved from a solid piece of granite. Two of the bathroom walls as well as the steam shower are clad with large format grey limestone from floor to ceiling. The separate master suite offers a private sanctuary high above the living room below. To accommodate extra guests the ground floor houses a spacious guest bedroom and a full bath complete with a shower tiled in glass mosaic. The main space of this bath is also tiled to the ceiling with designer tiles. The large gathering area on this floor with its open floor plan has a magnificent view of Hunter Mountain through the floor to ceiling window and doors as well as Southern exposure.
