Live in a large, historic house in a quiet, verdant setting yet just a short walk from the restaurants, shops and theaters of downtown Durham. On the ground floor, the house features a stately dining room, modern eat-in kitchen, spacious living room and a beautiful wood paneled library/office, with 6 bedrooms/4 bathrooms on the 2nd floor (some of which could also be used as offices). The exterior includes a screened-in porch and an idyllic garden with table, a gazebo and flowers throughout the year. There is also a hot tub nestled among the greenery. The house retains most of its original details, including built-in bookcases in the library and intricate woodwork and wainscoting on the grand staircase. We have redone one of the bathrooms to have a rain shower, and parts of the kitchen to maintain the original while modernizing with a Wolf induction cooktop and double ovens. There is a baby grand piano in the living room. Durham is a short walk (or drive if you prefer) with the performing arts center and American Tobacco campus especially close. Bike to Duke University in 15-20 minutes, or it's a 3 mile drive when it's raining. Chapel Hill is about 20 min away. Orchard Park, a popular neighbor place with playground, is diagonally across the street. We are going away for the academic year so renting through summer (exact date negotiable). No smoking, small dogs could be ok if non-allergenic. Wifi included, other utilities not included (except alarm system, which is included for fire safety). Parking both on street and in large driveway. We can discuss the use of a car if desired (we plan to leave ours in the garage), our cleaning service, a yard service, etc. The hot tub we can leave for your use if you'll maintain it, otherwise drain. We would prefer at least a 6 month lease. We plan to put some of our things on the third floor and so are not including that in the rental. There is also plenty of room in the basement if additional storage is needed.
