We are looking for renters to occupy our 700sqft cabin for the duration of this winter and spring, start and end dates are October 2 until April 30, 2024 (Possible extension into May if wanted). Oct 2 is so that we can get inside the cabin after the current renter moves out and do a thorough inspection or any cleaning if needed.
The log cabin is a furnished 2 bedroom, 1 bath property. One of the bedrooms has a large loft with a pine wood dresser, electric standing desk (can be moved downstairs or into second bedroom), under bed storage, and a king sized foam mattress (brand: Bear) complete with all linens and pillows. The loft overlooks the living room but remains tucked away and private. The window looks out onto the Talkeetna Mountains and the aurora is a regular visitor looking out from your bed in the winter. We have personally used the loft as our bedroom for the past 7 years since it is large and the furniture is low profile so it doesn't feel cramped. The second bedroom is downstairs and has a queen size bed (brand: Leesa), pine wood dresser, and closet. Each bedroom has creature comforts: fans, air purifiers, down comforters, linen sheets, down pillows. The kitchen has a gas stove/oven, microwave, and dishwasher while the washer/dryer are located in the bedroom on the first floor. The kitchen comes fully stocked with pots, pans, silverware, cast iron, dutch oven, wine glasses, Tupperware, etc. There is a wood burning stove in the living room that can be used for winter ambiance or can be used to supplement the normal thermostat controlled heat. The living room is set up with a large chase lounge sofa and has a small 2 person dining room table with chairs to eat meals. Note: we do not have a TV. The house has a water softener and there is a water filter for tap water through the sink in the kitchen.
The property itself is just shy of an acre and backs up to a few acres of protected land; it is a moose hot spot and they regularly travel the property in the winter and spring. There is a large shed on site that is shared but two separate spaces; it is perfect for storing a snowmachine/ATV and all your ski/fishing/camping gear along with 2 freezers for any meat you might need to store. In addition, there is an awesome 4 person wood burning sauna (with changing room) in the woods on the property. There is a greenhouse out front which is not rigged up for winter temperatures, it stays dormant in the winter. The driveway is leveled gravel next to the house and has enough space to fit a trailer/RV/boat along with personal vehicles. The neighborhood is quiet and safe with very little crime, a lot of the neighbors on the street are ex military and active or retired law enforcement. GCI internet is available at the house at its fastest speeds (1TB) making this a great work from home spot for remote workers. Maximum occupancy is 2 humans and this house cannot be used for business purposes (example: massage therapy).
The cabin is located 45 minutes from Anchorage; trunk road is right around the corner along with 3 coffee stands before even getting on the highway. The entrance to Hatcher Pass and the ski lift area is only 20 minutes away making this an awesome winter ski hub for people who go into the backcountry or use the XC ski trails up by the mine. Government Peak is 15 minutes from the house and has tons of XC skiing trails in the winter as well. This area of Wasilla is full of public use lakes that are stocked and can be used to ice fish. The cabin is right on the line with Palmer so each town center is within 10 minutes and 3 Bears is within 5 minutes.
We are looking for renters who are more on the self sufficient side, we cannot stress this enough. For example: people who will refill the water softener with salt, change out the air filter every few months, change light bulbs if they go out. We are more than happy to walk you through both of these steps prior to move in or at the time. Any wood to be burned (for sauna or wood burning stove) can either be used from our stash if you refill it when you move out, or you can get your own delivered. Snow removal will be the responsibility of the tenants as well.
Water is well. Gas, electric, trash, and internet can either be put in tenants name OR all utilities can stay in owners name and be bundled on top of rent for an additional 310 a month based on Oct-May averages (gas 130, electric 70, internet = GCI "fast" - Data: 250GB/month, Speed: 250mpbs, trash 20). Internet can also be upgraded for speeds and data if needed and the plan amount difference just tacked on if choosing to bundle rent and utilities. We do not have a preference if you put everything in your name or leave it on ours and bundle, we've had people do it both ways.
A 3rd party credit check will be required (SmartMove - $40) along with rental references that will be checked. Security deposit is 1 months rent (1500). Employment will need to be verifiable. We are open to discussing dogs but they will be on a case by case basis (no breed discrimination here!); when rental references are checked we will ask about the pet. No outside living dogs, we aren't interested in contributing to barking dogs or dogs off leash free roaming the neighborhood. We are very sorry, no cats. No smoking inside the cabin. No parties, again this is a quiet residential neighborhood.
Images of the cabin include our personal items because at the time of photos we were living in the space full time (summer '23). Property is currently occupied, please do not come onto the property unless a showing is scheduled. We have had two tenants in the past move up to Alaska to rent the cabin sight unseen so we are very well versed in virtual showings, meetings, and digitally signing documents. Because the house is currently occupied and we are currently out of state, we aren't able to schedule a showing unless scheduled with lots of notice and a friend will have to meet you. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the rental further, please message us here.
