Allen resided at this 3 story brownstone townhouse in the Stuyvesant section at the dawn of the 20th century, in a neighborhood we now know as Bedford Stuyvesant. And it wasn't bad digs for a crime fighter hunting down notorious Brooklyn mobsters. Amazing still that even then it was billed as a 3 family townhouse in Brooklyn Daily Eagle classified ads. Clearly Mr. Allen was raised in the opulence the gilded age had to offer for Brooklyn's growing middle class, as this late 19th century brownstone row house exhibits (which our youtube video offers a glimpse into).
