Warm Sands is an up-and-coming, vintage neighborhood that has been undergoing gentrification for over 12 years. Properties consist of modest, older California ranch-style and Spanish colonial houses, larger vintage mid-century modern homes, and newer homes designed to honor the architectural legacy for which Palm Springs is world famous. The neighborhood is of mixed use and also contains some 20 upscale, gay male resorts, small condominium and apartment complexes, and three separate retail strips with shops, restaurants and boutiques geared toward hip, sophisticated urban tastes. Warms Sands sits within 2-16 blocks walking distance to the old Village (restaurants, cafes, art galleries, shops & boutiques, bars & nightclubs), the Spa Hotel & Casino, the new Convention Center and the scheduled new "W Hotel" complex, and is bordered on the south by the new Tahquitz Creek Parkway, which runs nearly all the way to the mouth of Tahquitz Canyon, with its mountain hiking trails, and the new Aqua Caliente Indian Tribal Center & Museum. The strong proactive Warm Sands Neighborhood Organization (WSNO) has seen to it that new sidewalks have been/are being created by the City to promote both walking and bicycling, and to eliminate the obsessive Southern California need for driving. WSNO has also worked with the City Arts Commission to strategically place and erect vibrant new sculptures that help identify, brand and define the neighborhood.
