    What's special

This rural neighborhood is small and quiet. There are no street lights or sidewalks in town. The houses use well water and septic tanks. Upper Saddle River has its own library and police station, although it shares a fire dept.(Located in USR) with neighboring Saddle River. The town is minutes from Route 17 and many small town centres nearby including, Ridgewood, Ramsey, Allendale, Saddle River, Montvale and Ho Ho Kus. These towns are so small that they are all within a 5 minute drive. The town of USR has a few churches, most notably the famous Old Stone Church (circa 1740's or earlier). There are some other historic monuments in the town, such as the famous Hopper Gutchess House (built 1748), which was the first house in the town. The historic landmark in the center of the town a short walk from the library, schools and town hall is Elmers. This was the 1st building in town and the exterior was completely original until this year from the early 1700s. It serves as the only commercial installment "in-town", as the residents do not think of the businesses of Rte-17 as being in USR, but rather on the border. In that same respect, the HQ of Prentice-Hall Publishers occupies a large chunk of property on the outer town borders near Rte-17.There are 4+ major malls within a half hour drive down South Rte-17 and plenty of restaurants and diners along USR's borders. Westchester, NY is accessible Via the Tappanzee Bridge, and the George Washington Bridge is 30 minutes away, along with the tunnels into NYC. Many residents commute daily to New York City. There is a NJ Transit train about 5 minutes away in Ramsey. If you have children, the school system is excellent, and the town is very big into Recreational Sports from the Pee-Wee level all the way through to the 9th Grade High School Level. The sports are played in USR's Lions Park, which has many soccer and football fields, and at least 4 baseball diamonds. It also has playgrounds and it borders a creek for fishing.
