    What's special

This historic 1875 Victorian located on popular North Lubec Road has commanding views over island studded Johnson's Bay.  Enjoy sunrises over the bay with your morning coffee from the breakfast nook or on warm days, from the deck overlooking the bay.  This three bedroom home features hard wood and vinyl floors, a large kitchen with Cherrywood cabinets, island with cook top and a breakfast nook with water views.  There is a formal dining room surrounded by windows, a good size living room and a den with patio doors leading to the deck.  The half bath with laundry and a small office area complete the first floor.  The second floor has three bedrooms - two with views of the bay and a full bath.  Lots of updates have been made - two new oil tanks, chimney liner, new boiler with hot water off the boiler and the roof was shingled in 2016. Access to the waterfront is just a lot away. The home does not own the waterfront so the views are free!  The home overlooks the site of the old North Lubec Manufacturing and Canning Company and is next to the company store which still exists.  Filled with history, Lubec was part of Eastport until June 1811 when it gained its independence from Eastport.  North Lubec was the first populated area and was considered the town center until roads and trails allowed for the expansion of the town.   With over 90 miles of shorefront, Lubec's connection to the sea has helped shape the town as it is today.  From fishing in the early years, to the processing of herring and canning of sardines it created an economy based on the natural resources of the area.  Today, some 200 plus years later, it still relies on the natural resources for fishing, however the town has expanded into the enjoyment of its natural resources thru tourism.  Lubec offers over 4,000 acres of preserved lands and State Parks for hiking, biking, and exploring.  There are areas open to the public for the launching of boats of all sizes from Kayaks and Canoes to Fishing boats and pleasure boats.  The Sunrise Trail is just a short distance away for those that prefer to keep their feet on the ground.  The Sunrise Trail is an 87 mile trail following the old railroad system and covers from Ellsworth to Calais. The trails are open to ATV and UTV's, horseback riding, hiking, biking (both peddle and dirt bikes) in the spring, summer and fall and when the snow hits, the snowmobiles, cross-country skiing and dog sleds take over and enjoy the trails.  A great way to see the "back country" yet just minutes to any number of parking spots access the trails. Washington County, also known as the Sunrise County, is a great place to live, work and play.  Thousands of acres of Federal, State and Private Conservation lands are open to the public for the enjoyment of nature and the great out-doors.  Countless cultural events are held throughout the year and now with wi-fi, fiber optics and other high speed internet available in most areas, the tele-commuting jobs provide a great option to be able to live, work and play in Downeast Maine.
