About this home:
It's a quintessential 1907 Capitol Hill porchfront, gut renovated with care to keep original flavor. It has warm, original floors and a wall of hand-crafted built-in bookshelves, a kitchen featuring white quartz countertops and white subway tile, upgraded stainless appliances, and accents crafted from reclaimed wood from the house's original beams. The 500 sqft lower level (which would be all yours) boasts exposed brick and a generous private bath. There's a delightful deck off the kitchen with built in seating, a retractable sun awning, a gas grill, and bike storage underneath. It has a large patio with bluestone added in 2020, great for hot cocoa around a fire. Everything throughout the house is new as of 2016 including the roof, window treatments, doors, interior framing, walls, plumbing, electrical, and fixtures. The central heating is managed by a Nest thermostat and smart smoke/CO2 detector.
About a rental arrangement:
I'm seeking a housemate for August 1st or shortly thereafter. You'd share this home with one woman (me). The entire lower level would be yours alone, the upper level would be mine, and we'd share the middle level. You can choose a 9 or 12mo lease with the option to go month-to-month after. We'd split utilities. There's free/plentiful street parking and the room comes unfurnished. I think this place would be perfect for someone who is kind of drawn to the modern apartments around here but would prefer a house (no elevator, no buzzer) with all the charms of a private porch and deck.
About this neighborhood:
It's the perfect neighborhood. You're close to everything but tucked away in a leafy residential area. You can walk to Lincoln Park (the gem of Capitol Hill), Eastern Market, and the H Street corridor, including my new favorite cafe, Hiraya. There are tons of restaurants, access to public transit, and sunny, bikeable streets. Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Giant, and Safeway are all a stone's throw away.
About me:
I'm a data scientist at a software company and I do a lot of rock climbing. I worked on a 2012 campaign, so the fact that you're looking for a place in Capitol Hill means we probably know the same people. Like them, I adore NPR podcasts, strong cocktails, and quality memes. I love having friends over for drinks and snacks, and would love for you to join and/or feel like you can host friends as well. If you have parents in town or something, there's enough space for us to make them comfortable here. As a housemate I'm unusually clean and quiet. (Mainly, I think dishes should be done once the meal is done). If I listen to anything, it's on headphones, and I sleep 11-7ish.
Next steps:
I'd love to jump on a quick call or video chat to see if we think we'd like being housemates, and then I'm flexible for showing the place in July.
9 or 12mo lease and month-to-month after. Free street parking. No smoking, no drugs.
