Listed in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places, the William Arnott House was built in 1890 by William and Emma Arnott of New York City. This classic Queene Anne Victorian, located at 506 Windermere Avenue in Mount Arlington, was originally part of the Breslin Hotel Park property. Everything significant about Mount Arlington revolves around one omni-present natural resource: Lake Hopatcong. This beautiful antique Victorian-style home is set on a 1.3 acre hill overlooking Bertrand Island and the lake and is breathtaking to behold. It bedazzles both within and without. Similar in size and complexity to some of the architect-designed Breslin Park houses this structure is the last remaining single family Victorian style home from the Breslin Park era. The Arnott House is given distinction by its high podium basement, octagonal tower and huge wrap-around porch ornamented with a Chippendale like balustrade and jigsaw brackets. A 2nd floor balcony porch on the lakeside façade has a semi-circular roof, turned posts, and a railing identical to that of the porch. The interior is in original condition with large pocket doors leading into the parlor and dining room. All woodwork is in excellent condition. There are three floors with a total of six bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a half bathroom on the first floor. The master bedroom, the foyer, the dining room and the parlor all have fireplaces. There is a full basement with 15 foot stone walls. A full size in-ground swimming pool is located behind the patio in the backyard. A new roof was installed in 2013 including plywood and shingles.
