    What's special

The Sea Captain Hilman Crosby House, Circa 1830. Hilman Crosby, an intercoastal ship captain, built this sturdy Cape Cod-style house in 1830 as a gift to his wife, in celebration of their marriage. Over the years, as the family grew they determined a need for additional space. To accommodate this need they decided to bring over by boat a house from Nantucket which they added to the original structure, some good old Yankee ingenuity. Today this beautifully restored home sits elegantly among the other private estates and historic houses that line the quiet Main Street of Centerville. In 1985, after retiring from a successful career in the corporate world, the current owner and his wife purchased this property, fulfilling two long-time desires. One, retire to the Cape, the second to become innkeepers. Some folks think of retirement as an ending, but for them it marked the beginning of a fulfilling new lifestyle. Fifteen years prior to the purchase the couple began romanticizing the idea of becoming Innkeepers and owning a Bed & Breakfast. This dream became a reality when they graciously opened their doors to the public, transforming the home into The Copper Beech Inn. Adorning the grounds of this landmark property is a grand old European Beech tree which they thought would provide a dramatic natural setting for their guests to enjoy. They were right! This Beech tree is reportedly one of the largest and most beautiful on Cape Cod and ultimately became the namesake of the inn. Located on Main Street and nestled between the 1856 Country store, Centerville Historic Museum and a lovely park, one could feel as if they were subjects of a Norman Rockwell painting. For over 35 years the current owner feels privileged to have had the opportunity to not only call this home, but also act as curator and innkeeper. Now the time has come to pass this honor onto the next, who will love and cherish this home as much as owners of the past. This is a fantastic opportunity to own a significant part of our local maritime history and official historic landmark.
