Ortega Forest is a neightborhood of destination! It is close to downtown (home in 15 -20 minutes from athletic and cultural events), yet lots of quiet streets, stately live oaks and other trees with spanish moss. Depending on traffic lights, you can be at the gate for NAS Jacksonville in 5 to 10 minutes. The Ortega River and canals surround much of the area. Nice streets with curbs, nicely maintained homes and yards, lot of children and neightbors who talk with one another. A labor day block party at our corner (Prince Edward and Malphas). John Stockton school is the only "A" rated national Model School in the area. From one place in the yard you can see the school down Prince Edward Road, but we are not inundated with school traffic or parking from school events -- close but not too close.
