4898 Huntingfield is a private road just south of Rock Hall. It is near and on the way to a federal nature preserve. It is full of wildlife where you might see all sorts of birds including osprey, eagles, a variety of ducks, swans, egrets, blue herons as well as other wildlife (deer, fox, raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, turtles). The waterfront is 150 feet with riprap. On top of the rocks are cement bustresses each weighing 3800 pounds for each 4 foot of shoreline. The cement ramp in front of the house makes entering the water easier but there is also a right of way to a sheltered cove about 1000 feet away which our residents use for small boats, kayaks and canoes. The house has several special features. The bottom of the house starts with a footer which was built up from the dirt with forms which included iron reinforcement in the cement. The footers were filled with stone that has perforated drain pipe going to a dry well. The walls were not constructed of the usual 8 inch block normally used, nor of 10 inch block but of 12 inch block. Every two layers of cement blocks were reinforced with steel. The walls were then parged to waterproof them, and than tarred. The outer walls of the house are built with 2x6 studs rather then 2x4 to increase the amount of insulation. There are special blinds on the house that can be closed allowing good vision out of the windows but still blocking the incoming sun in the summer. Another benefit is that it is almost impossible to see in from outside while you can easily see out. It also prevents fading of rugs and upholstery. The roof was recently replaced as well as the furnace and air conditioner, both with a very high rated efficiency. There are two spacious decks, one is 36 x 11 and one is 17 x 13. There are replacement windows. The views are absolutely amazing!!!
