Our home is in a cul-de-sac with 13 other homes, all of which are on ~1 acre lots. Most of the neighbors are super friendly and there is a somewhat annual block party held in front of our house which is a lot of fun. We doubled the electrical outlets in the home and added some extra lights plus it is hardwired for phone and Internet with CAT-5 although wireless works great. There is "cold storage" under the front porch for putting up food storage and a "crawl space" that's about 5' tall so you can almost stand up in it and won't run out of storage space. None of that space is included in the square footage of the home because it's not considered livable. I insisted on extra water spigots in the yard so there are 7 spread around the whole yard. All the sprinklers are set with an automatic timer. Both gas and electricity was run to the stove and dryer so whichever way your appliances are, they will work without any problems. The fireplace is wood burning but also has gas run to it so it can be switched easily. The home is set up for 2 water heaters and the furnace is high efficiency. The wall in the study room can be knocked out to make a balcony (all wiring is in the headers) and the two windows on the side of the master bedroom were constructed with beams overhead so they can be changed to doorways if another section is added. The same with the window on the first floor. The yard is fenced with chain link but we added three drive through gates and two gates wide enough to drive a ride on lawn mower through. I love this home, it has been wonderful for our family. It's small and cozy yet large and spacious. Just perfect. We tried to think of all the things that people would want in a home, not just what we wanted, and erred on the side of adding too many extras (like the 7 spigots in the yard instead of one as suggested by the landscaper). They may not increase the value of the home, but hopefully will make people's lives a little easier or more enjoyable.
