Ventana, The Big Sur Bakery, Big Sur Taphouse, Nepenthe and The Cafe Kevah are all also within walking distance, or a very short drive. The nearby Taphouse and Deli are popular with locals and have great takeout menus. Big Sur Roadhouse, Ripplewood, Big Sur River Inn, Fernwood, The Big Sur Lodge and Deetjens are all within a short driving distance. Vista al Mar is located right in the heart of Big Sur, just south of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and Pfeiffer Beach. The property has sweeping ocean views of Pfeiffer Point and Wreck Beach to the northwest. Looking southeast down the coast you can see Piedras Blancas Lighthouse 60 miles away on a clear day. The main bedroom looks down the dramatic coastline from the a California King bed with a sliding patio door leading onto the deck with the Japanese soaking tub. Upstairs there is a 200 sq. ft. two sided sleeping loft. One side has two twin beds. The other side has an xl twin bed and a desk. The sleeping loft ceiling is 51" high. The loft is comfortable for sleeping and sitting and has ocean views from both areas. This space can be used for occasional pre-approved guests visiting overnight during your stay, such as friends or adult children. There will be an additional $50 per person per night fee. The house has one bathroom with a tub, shower combination. Sit back on the deck and watch the whales spouting and sometimes even breaching. See schools of dolphins and abundant wildlife such as deer, turkeys, condors, hawks and numerous other creatures. Take photos of sunrises and sunsets. Relax in the evenings watching a cheery fire burning in the stove and listen to your favorite music through the bluetooth sound system. No parties or loud activities are allowed as per property CC&Rs. This is a place to relax and unwind surrounded by peace and quiet. It is a retreat from the world. No persons under 21 yrs. A complimentary 2-3 mile private guided hike through redwood forests, meadows and chaparral is included with your stay. There will be housekeeping services once per week @ $100 per week. Truly - as good as it gets. The cabin itself is warm, comfortable and stocked with everything you could possibly need. You can spend time here looking out at the vast ocean (from the cabin and property) and at night the sky is so clear you can gaze into other worlds while soaking in the Japanese soaking tub. You won t meet better hosts than Mark and Karen. They are amazing. We are already planning our return visits. Sarah wrote; My stay in this Big Sur cabin was like a dream that far surpassed any hopes I had coming in. The cabin is surrounded by a beautiful garden with delicious fresh vegetables that I was encouraged to eat, as well as sweeping breath-taking views of the ocean and surrounding hillsides. There is a very clean pool ideally located on the cliffside overlooking the ocean with picturesque views of the coastline and sunsets. As beautiful as they are, the photos do not do the landscape justice. The cabin itself has large windows to take in the views, a cute little fireplace, and is very clean, quiet, and comfortable, with all the key essentials and many additional thoughtful touches. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable - I don t remember the last time I slept so well. Mark and Karen are extremely generous, kind, and communicative hosts who put a lot of thoughtful consideration into making the stay relaxing and making me feel like the property was my home. I am so grateful for this rather surreal experience and hope to be able to return someday soon. Kathy says: My husband and I have always wanted to spend more time in Big Sur but had never really found the right place to stay. When we found Mark and Karen's listing online we thought that it was too good to be true. It turns out it wasn t. We spent a magical month in December on this incredible property. The cottage is perfect for two people and has everything you need to feel right at home. I can't say enough about the stunning views. The cottage is right on the cliff overlooking the ocean with sunrises, sunsets and views of both the south and north coast. The property is inside of the Post Ranch Gate so you have the quiet of the area but just a short walk to the stunning Sierra Mar restaurant. What a joy to just walk to lunch or dinner and enjoy this incredible restaurant. Mark and Karen were the ultimate hosts. Mark gave us a guided walking tour of the area, fresh squeezed orange juice from the numerous fruit trees and fresh fish that he just caught in the cove below the property. We had fresh vegetables from the garden (even in December!). The private deck off of the cottage has a wonderful tub that you can soak in while enjoying the view. We also ate outside on the deck most nights and enjoyed the spectacular view. It was a very difficult place to leave. If you are looking for a once in a lifetime experience I would book this cottage right away. For us it will be more than once in a lifetime. We can't wait to go back! Kathy and Sal We came back!
