    What's special

This home has amazing potential for a fantastic Chesapeake Bay retreat. The existing structure is a tiny cottage built in the 1930s with four rooms on the first floor (including a large bedroom), and an upstairs room with a fantastic view of the marsh and Nanticoke River (western sunset views). While the building needs extensive renovations, is has a spacious fully functional modern bathroom (1980s) with tub/shower, a new hot water heater in 2006 and new clothes washing machine in 2007. An outdoor shed (with preserved period details) was rebuilt as a one-room apartment in 2006 (with heat and AC) and could provide comfortable living space for owner during renovation. Large private lot surrounded by lawn, huge trees and backing to a marsh. The home and shed are on high ground that remains dry even in storms that have flooded other nearby homes. Neighborhood Description Ancient neighborhood originally settled in the 1600s (among the first settlers in the new world). Most of the homes here were built in the early 1800s to early 1900s. Very little new construction -- this area has lots of character. All of the homes are centered around the "Village" of Tyaskin. This home, although private, is near other homes (i.e. not isolated). This was a rural farming and fishing community served by ferry until roads were established in the 1930s (approx). This is not a tourist area, despite fantastic waterfront parks and recreational facilities. Friendly people, most of whom are not life-long locals. The Village of Tyaskin is about half second homes, half full-time residents, many retired.
