This estate-sized, mid-century modern oasis has beautiful views of the Bay the privacy that you desire - all right in town! Live-in ready with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and financeable. If you want to do some updating we have an estimate on hand for you! The fireplace is built with Glacier Spit rock. Perennial gardens and deciduous trees add to the charm. Plus a shop, garage and carport! "The property was a wedding gift to our parents Bob and Carol Moss. Over the years they purchased adjacent property to reach the size it is now. The first House they built burned down about 1955 and they constructed the basement about 1960 and the house was built in 1962 by two local carpenters. Our family of four had been living in a small house just below this one and moved into the new house in the fall of 1962. It was a big change to move from a tiny shared bedroom and bunk beds into to our own large space. At that time there were few neighbors, just the Hoedels to the West and the Edens to the Southeast. The hillside was not nearly as forested as it is now; it was very open all of the way to the top of East Hill with only patches of spruce trees. The fields of fireweed in the late summer were a sight to behold. There was no television in this area until 1968 so our entertainment was the entire hillside. The area was our playground when we were young and we spent many hours exploring up and down East Hill and playing in the canyons. During the summers, until 1964 when the Homer Boat Harbor was constructed, we spent summers across the bay where our boats and fishing gear were harbored at the family homestead. This house endured the 1964 earthquake - the only damage that occurred in the house that I can remember is the breaking of 2 bottles of molasses. During that time, we had a coal fired furnace to heat the house. The coal was collected on the beach or from the one coal mine which was at the softball fields out East Road. The furnace was converted to oil in the early 1970's and was replaced about 6 years ago. The house was designed by our uncle and architect, Sherry Proctor who lived in Massachusetts. The fireplace was constructed by Dad, Mom and my Uncle Joel with rock they brought over from an outcropping of stone on Glacier Spit. It was definitely a labor of love as each course had to be hand fitted and the cement seams had to dry before the next could be laid. As I recall it took most of a winter to complete. The house was constructed using 2x4s, with Ã,¼ inch paneling on the interior and Ã,¾ cedar tongue and groove exterior. The cantilevered overhang was foam-sealed at the same time as the furnace was replaced. The Roof is plywood with tarpaper and hot mopped tar. Kitchen Cabinets were replaced about 1986 by a local cabinet shop." **See additional documents for work-up on costs to improve insulation and remodel the interior.
