    What's special

Back in February my wife and I purchased the home next to our own house. We had moved to Pennsburg four years earlier seeing potential in the town and the fell in love with the understated early Edwardian architecture. After several months of work, we are putting the final touches on the first of three units, which will be ready for move-in July 1st. Our first completed unit is a two bedroom/one bath that occupies the second and third story of the house. We tried to bring back and celebrate as much of the early 20th century character as we could, while also providing modern conveniences. The main floor has an open concept with painted original hardwood floors. The ceiling is reclaimed barn siding from Chester county and is illuminated by 1960s gym lights out of a local elementary school. The kitchen has new soft close cabinets and leathered granite countertops. The bathroom has been expanded with a tile shower, marble double vanity, reclaimed tin ceiling shelving and oversized mid-century mirror. Trim throughout the main floor is from a recent renovation in Schwenksville and shows over a hundred years of different paint colors. While patching walls in the first floor we discovered two pocket doors that had been sealed over since the 1970s. One of the doors now adorns the entrance to the main bedroom, proudly displaying its August 18, 1891 patent date in original yellow paint. Inside the bedroom two exposed brick walls tie together the walk-in closet to the rest of the room. The entrance to the second bedroom on the third story is a celebration of all the wood scraps we pulled from the renovation, highlighting a reclaimed Victorian door in the middle. In addition to architectural details, the apartment has updated windows and electric baseboard heat. A unit specific washer and dryer is provided in the basement with a sink and laundry area. There is one off street parking spot for the unit; two if you stack the vehicles. There is outdoor seating provided in the fenced in backyard which is lined by roses and ornamental grasses. Location wise the apartment is on Main street with direct access to 663 and 29. It is stumbling distance to Dunkin Donuts and Sweet Melissa s vegan bakery; walking distance to Weis and Tosco s, and a five minute drive to the Quakertown exit of the Northeast Extension. We are still in the process of finishing up the small details and the apartment will be ready for July 1st.
