    What's special

Are you looking to own a piece of history in the heart of Louisville? If so, you will not want to miss the Howard Hardy House! Steeped in history, this property is believed to be only one of two pre-Civil War homes still in existence in downtown Louisville with its slave quarters in tact. Even though the Hardy family owned slaves, they were known to be a part of movement to abolish slavery and participated in the Underground Railroad in Louisville when they built the house around 1830. Around 1904, the Miller family bought the property where they housed many UofL medical students. The Millers became known for their generous hospitality and the meals that they served to their guests. Due to the popular demand from the community, the Millers built an extension to the front of the building where they opened Miller's Caf. The Millers also housed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the difficult time of the 1937 flood. Christ Church Cathedral eventually purchased the property and did renovations around 2005-2006. Renovations during this time include geothermal heating and cooling and an elaborate dry sprinkler system just to name a few. As you walk around this property, you'll be taken back by all of the period hardware on the doors, two areas on the walls that have been preserved to expose some of the original wallpaper dating back to the 1830's, and many antique dishes and bottles that were believed to be used by the Miller family during their ownership of the caf. This property is currently zoned C-2 and is currently setup for office space; however, this property can be converted back to a stunning single family residence.
