Marmalade District Neighborhood
http://www.utah.com/culture/marmalade_district.htm
The Marmalade District is Salt Lake's oldest neighborhood. The homes and streets are absolutely charming. A lot of the older areas are being restored. Modern homes tucked in-between charming shotgun home and prewar bungalows. There is new construction going on as well, which is rare in the downtown area – the Marmalade is definitely the top neighborhood in down town Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City has built a new modern library in the neighborhood within walking distance. There is a little coffee shop and wonderful restaurant tucked away that no one really knows about. The streets are filled with trees and you are in walking distance ( 5 minutes ) of downtown, temple square, and the trax commuter line. It is a great location if you work downtown, since you don't have to deal with traffic. If you dont fast freeway access is just seconds away.
Parks
If you want to picnic you can go to one of the numerous parks in the neighborhood including Silver Park, Warm Springs Park (and walking trail), The State of Utah Capital grounds or walk over 5 minutes to City Creek Canyon / park and picnic in Memory Grove Park or walk the trails.
Shopping
You can walk 5 minutes and shop at the City Creek Center or grab trax commuter line (Free Downtown) and go to the Gateway and see a movie. Two contemporary art galleries are within walking distance of Marmalade, Or just walk downtown and eat at one of the numerous restraints or bars.
What I love about the home
The large great room area with a fireplace is very comfortable and a nice room. 2nd floor loft space can be used as a bedroom, and TV Room. The patio is very charming in the summertime. It is the perfect size for one person or a couple that is just starting out.

Marmalade Hill Historic District
http://www.utah.com/culture/marmalade_district.htm
Salt Lake City's Marmalade Hill Historic District was named so because early street names reflected the fruit-bearing plants and trees imported and planted there by its early residents. Marmalade is a small triangular area bounded by 300 North on the south, 500 North on the north, Center Street on the east, and Quince Street, the district's "Main Street", on the west. Settled in the early days of Salt Lake City, the Marmalade District is distinguished from other neighborhoods by steep, narrow, angular streets, mature landscaping and a surprising variety of vintage residential buildings. Within a single one-block area are almost as many styles of architecture as exist in the entire Avenues Historic District. Moreover, many buildings are considered to be among Utah's best examples of certain types of architecture.
