As you are sitting in your formal dining room enjoying your morning cup of coffee you reflect over your activities for the day. The first stop will be the downtown Appleton Farmers Market to shop for fresh vegetables and a floral arrangement for the party you are giving this evening. As you begin your walk downtown for your shopping trip you are always amazed at the beautiful historic buildings in the neighborhood. As you leave your home your eyes drift across the street to the Hammel House. It is rumored that President Taft visited the home after a lecture at Lawrence University on October 26, 1911. The Hammels were friends of the author, Edna Ferber, and she wrote of them in her autobiography. As you walk towards downtown, you have the pleasure of passing by the Temple Zion. It was added to the National Historic Register in 1978. It is said that Harry Houdini’s father was a Rabbi for this congregation for a while. Appleton’s Edna Ferber was also a member of the congregation. Your evening party will host a backyard barbeque in your enclosed backyard. Guests will be able to move about freely in the open concept home from backyard to front porch to large living room and formal dining area. The hardwood floors throughout make the home so warm and attractive. After a successful party you climb the open staircase at the end of your evening to head for bed. You reflect on how wonderful it is to be living close to downtown where everything is convenient. You feel a sense of pride in owning such a beautiful character home with beautiful warm woodwork. Tomorrow may be an adventure to City Park just a few blocks away. You may take a book and read in front of the fountain in the Park. Or, maybe meet up with friends and dine at a downtown restaurant. There are so many wonderful things to do so near your home.
