Snow Hill's most eclectic and modern twentieth-century residence was designed for R.P. Warren and his wide by New Bern architects Robert H. Stephens and Aldo B. Cardelli, partners between 1958 and 1976. Stephens and Cardelli's overall work embraced simplified form, but rather than taking a standard Modernist approach, their buildings were imbued with classical references and minimalized decoration, echoing the work of contemporary architects such as Edward Durrell Stone and Robert Venturi, albeit in a more modest and less monumental format. For the Warren House, Stephens and mental format. For the Warren House, Stephens and Cardelli brought the concept of a Greco Roman villa to the 1960's. With the use of natural materials- wood, brick and flagstone veneer- and the careful plan of landscape architect Richard "Dickie" Bell, the Warren House quickly blended into its verdant surroundings. Within, the house plan affords not only the usual comfortable privacy but also elegant public access, thanks to the handsomely paneled living room, the central dining room, and the rear terrace. The house has remained intact and is the only example of Stephens and Cardelli work in Greene County. The home was later purchase by its current owner which underwent updating to 2020.
