When the blocks finally melted, bowl-shaped holes, called kettles, were created. All the debris surrounding it fell into the hole, and then filled with water, and became a lake as we know it. Horseshoe Lake features excellent fishing for smallmouth bass and perch, as well as crappie, and blue gill. There is a State owned public access site on the western shore. It has a gravel ramp, and parking for eight vehicles. Just across the road at the south end of the property is Island Lake - This pretty lake is approximately 25-30 acres in size, and has a maximum depth of about 40 feet. It is deep enough to support Brook trout. Also close by is Squaw Lake, a 221-Acre, 80-Foot deep lake, which is know for its trout fishing. It has a State owned public access site with a hard-surfaced ramp on the southwest corner -- and Twin Lake a 21-Acre lake, which is 90-Feet deep, and has a public access with a carry-down ramp on the north-west shore. It offers perch and Brown trout which is stocked annually. This property is surrounded by great hunting lands were Black bear, Grouse, Turkey, Whitetail deer and other woodland wildlife is abundant. State of Michigan Land and thousands of acres of Corporate CFA Land is located to the north and west for walk-in access for hunting, trapping, and additional stream, river and lake fishing. Trails from Fence River Road (3/4 mile to the south) connect to the Amasa Trail, a Multi-Use State Trail System, and about 5 miles to the east is the main North-South Snowmobile Trail No. 5.
