FAQ: no driveway. This is the most incomparably pristine LAKE (read: not a dammed river one really wouldn't think of drinking water from) in Alabama. Six miles long, Inland takes half-hour by boat to wend ones way from one end to the other. Fewer than thirty cabins are in the woods about as many ( thirty ) miles of shorelines.
If you want a subdivision stop reading now. All lands about Inland, the lake itself, and all the cabin 'campsites' are owned by the Birmingham Water Works Board ( BWWB) , are without meets/bounds, and because of that, the unique natural character of Inland lake, worlds apart from all other (read: overdeveloped, overcrowded ) lakes in Alabama, is almost certain to stay the way is has been for decades far into the forseeable future.
Leases run about $3,000 per year for a cabin site plus a slip at the marina, which is how everyone and everything reaches cabins -by boat. Cabin 'campsites' are permitted only to private individuals, and commercial uses (i.e. 'rent to own', Air BnBs, etc.) prohibited. To prevent damage to docks wake-boats are prohibited, and jet-skis and skiing in the narrow end of the lake for safety reasons. Inland is most always glass, though, excellent for slaloming mornings and afternoons; at worst case small ripples - rarely, even on holidays are there more than two or three boats out on the lake at the same time.
Any offer for the cabin will need a minimum of 90 days for review by the BWWB, who maintain per terms in the lease, a 'right of first refusal'. At-market transfers (not to family) of cabins are subject to this 'blind reserve'.
Our family has enjoyed Inland lake since the '50s and 'our own place', this cabin, since about 1970. Giving up the family cabin is hard - but nothing on this Earth lasts forever.
Inland, though a public lake, is a jewel of a retreat really beyond description that few seem to know about and even fewer visit. Experiencing it in person for yourself is really the only way to to convey it's appeal.
