Neighborhood Description
Just 3 miles west of I-5, along the boundary of Los Padres National Forest lies the small town of Frazier Park, CA. An often overlooked recreation area of Los Padres National Forest is within minutes of the Frazier Park community. Recreation activities include cross country skiing, tobogganing at Mount Pinos and Mount Abel, usually possible from November through March where the elevation is nearly 9,000 feet. During the winter months, be sure to carry tire chains and check road conditions with the local authorities. Average winter temperature is 30-40 degrees, with snow expected when storms come in from the Pacific Ocean, only 45 miles to the west. Most of the settled areas range in elevation from 4,000 feet to about 6,000 feet. There are many campgrounds and hiking trails in the surrounding mountain areas. Fire danger is always high the dry summer season, please be careful! There are fishing, swimming & boating activities at nearby Pyramid Lake. The air is so clear that many astronomer groups come here on the summer evenings to observe the sky. Private airport facilities are located in nearby Lockwood Valley. There is a limited amount of private land within the National Forest boundaries only because of early Spanish land grants and subsequent home-steading done by the Cuddy family during the Civil War era. Frazier Park was subdivided in 1926 by Harry McBain, the then Mayor of Glendale, as a resort area to get away from the hustle & bustle of city life. There is a spacious County Park within the towns limits with playground equipment for children, picnic tables, barbecues, lawns, small fishing pond, recreation building, etc. Lake of the Woods (no lake now) was also subdivided in 1926 by a branch of the Cuddy family. Electricity, phones and well water are found in each subdivision. Natural Gas is in Frazier Park. Just about everything you need, except the traffic congestion, smog and fast paced city can be found here in Frazier Park!
