Lakeway is known for being safe and sleepy (perfect for families, retirees or empty nesters). A very nice park is a couple blocks away from our house. The LTISD (esp. LTHS) are considered some of the best in the city/state as well as the H.S. ranking in the top 20 nationally for best schools according to Newsweek. If you are moving to L-way it s/b for 2 reasons: 1) Schools 2) Community on a Lake (with a resort like atmosphere, many activities such as golf etc.). If you don't want to "pay" to "play" then Lakeway will most definitely not be your 'cup of tea' as the property taxes avg a little more than 3%. Watch out for the police as they are pretty strict on speed limits and very hard on teenagers. They Are known for being more than a little overboard at times on traffic enforcement. For the most part, if pulled over, once the officer realizes you are a local resident they usually let you off with a warning. It's a hassle even for careful drivers. They are usually great to residents and hard on outsiders esp. contractors etc. If you like golf then Lakeway will fit right in. Not only are there plenty of golf courses, but the entire comunity is golf cart friendly with actual dedicated golf cart lanes on most main streets. Many residents use these for jogging or walking their dogs etc. Lakeway Country Club = The Hills (Jack Nickalus designed), Live Oak Golf Course, Yaupon Golf Course & World of Tennis Sports Complex, Falcon Head Golf Club (PGA Tour Signature Series Course), Flintrock Falls Golf Course (another Jack Nicklaus designed), Spanish Oaks at Bee Cave Golf Course (Bobby Weed designed)
