After driving to the upper end of the town of Castle Valley, along the valley floor, you climb slightly into the foothills of the Castle Valley Rim. The area is thick with native vegetation, including junipers, pines, sage brush, and grasses. The greens, grays, and tawny umbers of the native flora contrasts wonderfully with the reds, pinks, and buffs of the dirt and natural stone. The cabin is nestled in the junipers and pines on the gently sloping terrain at the end of a long private driveway accessed from Keogh Road through a pipe gate. The cabin is circumvented by the crushed gravel driveway maintaining a minimal negative effect on the native landscape. Landscaping maintenance at the cabin site is near zero leaving you more free time for other interests. On the left side of the driveway is a small camper trailer with an over roof, for protection from the elements, and a small shed which will be included in the sale. From the driveway up several stone steps and across a covered front porch the entire length of the cabin is the entry to the cabin. Entering the cabin you find yourself in a well apportioned living/dining room with a cathedral ceiling of natural tongue and groove wood. This room has five large windows letting in the views and light from three sides. In addition there are five windows in the gable end of the room flooding the room with yet more light. Opposite this wall of windows is a rustic pine log staircase accessing the loft. From the loft looking through the gable end windows are unsurpassed views of Round Mountain, Porcupine Draw, the Battle Ground, Pinhook, Harpole Mesa, and the North end of the La Sal Mountains. On the opposite end of the loft are double doors opening out on to a balcony with phenomenal views of the lower Castle Valley Rim, north Rim of the Colorado River, Pace Hill, and Parriott Mesa. Directly across from the dining area is a cozy fully equipped alley kitchen leading through a laundry alcove to the bedroom. Immediately to the right of the front door is the door to the bedroom. The bathroom can also be accessed from this bedroom. The back door of the cabin, located between the dining area and the kitchen, opens onto another covered porch that also runs the entire length of the cabin. The back porch accords an unbelievable up-close view of the Castle Valley Rim from Porcupine Draw/Pinhook on the left to Matt Martin Point at the river on the right. From the front porch the wholly unobstructed panorama of the north Rim of Castle Valley, in its entirety, from Pace Hill, Parriott Mesa, The Priest and Nuns, Castle Rock, Adobe Mesa, Willow Basin, and Grand View Pea k is astonishing. Adding to its noteworthy geologic uniqueness is its ever-changing appearance depending on the season of the year, time of day, and length of shadow. The cabin is a cozy, comfortable, and intimate retreat in which to write, paint, read, or do nothing but rest and relax between your other adventures in the area.
