    What's special

James City a historic village in Madison County Virginia and 11.8 ac is offered for sale. Just off of Route 29 at the Madison and Culpeper line is a time capsule that is waiting to be brought back to life. James City was established in 1796, on the stage road between Charlottesville and Fredericksburg and the tavern, post office, store, school , blacksmith shop and residence are what remains today of the once vibrant stagecoach stop. Its history includes a Civil War battle in October 1863, Stuart taking James City back from the Union forces to remove the Union signalmen off Thoroughfare Mountain. Soldiers left graffiti on the feed store walls and there is evidence of a cannonball coming through the Tavern’s roof. James City is on the National Register of Historic Places. The land is open and wooded with several streams, and is bisected by highway 29 and has long road frontage on both Leon and James City Roads. It is being offered in 5 tracts.
