The year was 1949, Oakland business owner, Stan and his wife Jean McKay, moved their three girls, Judy, Sally and Nancy from their modest home on the corner of Maple and School Streets in the Laurel, up to a wonderful house in the Oakland foothills on Jordan Road. Eldest daughter, Judy recalls how different life was with the wildlife and creek surrounding their great big modern abode. Immediately after school she would put her play clothes on and set out for adventures. In Stan McKay's spare time, he dug out the dirt basement by hand, and created the ultimate laboratory for him to restore his 1932 Rockne automobile. Jean was an active member of the PTA at Redwood Heights School, volunteered with the Girl Scout's Brownies organization, and did clerical work at the family business, McKay's Radio. In her spare time she threw fabulous parties with pot roast dinners and scrumptious vegetable side dishes. Own a piece of Oakland history! The McKay family home can be yours!
