1913 Apartments is a 17-unit luxury apartment building in the old YMCA building in downtown Atchison, KS. The old YMCA building, which is now listed on the national historic registry, was originally built in 1913 as a 35 room boarding house. Over the years, the YMCA utilized the building for a wide variety of education and recreation purposes before moving into a brand new facility next door in December of 2017. When the current historic rehabilitation project is finished in the summer of 2020, 1913 Apartments will feature a beautiful blend of classic and contemporary interior finishes, an elevator to all four levels, premium Corian countertops, ceramic tile throughout the kitchens and bathrooms, slate toned appliances, a washer/dryer in each unit, and the fastest internet available to any residential property in Atchison. 1913 Apartments will offer two studio units (~500 sf), nine one-bedroom units (585 sf to 875 sf), and six two-bedroom units (860 sf - 990 sf). Atchison's own L&L Construction is serving as the general contractor on the project. Other local subcontractors that will have substantial scopes of work include Pierce Heating & Cooling, Hawk Electric, Tate Plumbing, Bottorff Construction, R&A Glass, Martin Trash Service, and Fresh Start Painting. Exchange Bank & Trust has agreed to finance the project.
