The Charles Belden House is one of the finest examples of the picturesque Colonial Revival style in the borough. It was the first residential property north of the commercial district in Litchfield Center. This grand house has many handsome details. The exterior boasts a hip roof, gabled pavilions along with a conical pavilion with a conical roof at the southeast corner. A Doric entablature wraps the building and there's also a flat-roofed verandah with Tuscan columns. Art glass windows can be seen throughout and the grand staircase has a window seat The interior feels more late 19th century Victorian. There's a two-story octagonal bay in the North of the house with a two-story rounded bay in the South part. A two-story service elevator in the rear helped bring food and libations to the main floor. In 1945, the doctor who owned the house used it as his home and office and converted it to the Rose Haven Rest Home. Another building was constructed in 1959 for rehabilitation patients. The second building has just over 9,000 square feet. The house is in the Historic District. It could be re-imagined with the right vision.
