    LOCATION: This home is located in the town of Wister, OK. Wister is a small town with about 1,000 people and is located about 10 miles southwest of the county seat of Poteau, OK. Lake Wister State Park, which is a 7,300 acre lake with 5 camping areas, is only a couple of miles away. The larger city of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, population about 80,000, is roughly 32 miles away. LAND: This property sits on a very level 144 x 195 corner lot. There are several mature paper shell and regular pecan trees as well as a garden spot that the current owner had used for years. HISTORY: Construction on this fine home was first started in 1910 by a gentleman named Mr. Karr and was completed sometime in 1912. It was one of three houses that he built in the city of Wister for prominent families of that size and style. This particular home was built for a physician by the name of Shippy. Although Dr. Shippy passed away in 1928, his wife continued to reside in the home until 1964, at which time she went into a rest home and the current owners took possession of the home and have happily lived until the present. The lower level features a large entry, parlor, formal dining room, kitchen, living room, sleeping porch, utility and enclosed porch with entry to the small basement. The upper level has the four bedrooms all politely sitting on their corners with a full bathroom. The home has been very well maintained through the years and new windows and central heat and air has been added to the lower level. Vinyl siding and guttering have also been installed on both floors. The home has many of the original fixtures and beautiful pine hardwood floors. The entry newel post and balustrade are made of the same beautiful pine as are the door frame details. It is unknown when the sleeping porch was actually added, but the current owner has done lots of updating on the bathroom off of this space. FORMAL DINING ROOM: 12 x 12.9, White carpet, mauve plaster walls with white accent above, 12’ ceilings, pine moldings, original light fixture, fancy pine window seat and built-in storage along wall. KITCHEN: 12.2 x 13, Inlay flooring, 12’ ceilings, paneled wainscot walls with off-white above, lots of stained kitchen cabinets with rolled butcher block formica tops and backsplashes, stainless sink, dishwasher and electric kitchen stove. There is a door leading off of the kitchen which goes out to the utility room and the enclosed porch and basement entry. LIVING ROOM: 16.5 x 17.3, Taupe carpet, 12 ft ceilings, paneled and off-white textured walls, ceiling fan with light, gas fireplace with ceramic front, mirror and ornate pine mantle and surround. UTILITY ROOM: 8 x 10, Inlay flooring, plaster walls, washer and dryer connections and hot water tank. ENCLOSED PORCH: 7.6 x 20, Inlay flooring, plaster walls, door leading out to rear yard and garage. There is access to the basement from this area. The basement is roughly 8 x10.
