    What's special

Lovely Ranch Home in South Carolina- Space and privacy. Selling AS iS. Renovations are needed. No owner financing. Just outside the Sumter City limits, a tenth of a mile off the Wedgefield Road, at the end of a private lane, this 7-acre spread was once a tenent farm. The original tenant farmhouse is still there though it was moved to the back of the lot. The original well is marked by a hand pump just outside the garage entrance to the main house. There are two other wells on the property. A shallow well out by the garden was used for irrigation. A deeper well in a pump house feeds the houses. Water quality is excellent with no smell or sediment. The yellow brick house was built by my parents around 1969. The giant timbers on which the house sits were reclaimed from the demolition of the old Claremont Hotel in downtown Sumter. The heart pine hardwood flooring in the den, dining room, entrance hall, and sunken living room also came from the old hotel. The mantel over the massive brick fireplace and the wood box is also a large heart pine timber. During construction, the foundation for the fireplace was accidentally poured into the breakfast room area and we often thought how lovely it would be to have a fireplace in the kitchen area too. The flooring in this area needs to be replaced anyway due to some water damage that happened when my father was still alive. We hesitated to repair it realizing a new owner may want to redesign the whole kitchen and laundry room area. The room off the garage and laundry room originally functioned as an art studio and included a sink and a separate entryway. The room was later converted to a bedroom and then back into a study. The raised patio was converted into a sunroom in the 90’s. A built-in cabinet houses screens for converting the room to a screen porch in summer. A new roof was installed in 2017 after a large limb from the Bradford pear tree, just beside the patio, fell on the house. Before having the roof replaced, an inspection showed no active termites in the house. The inspector suggested the house was probably treated with powerful insect repellants that were banned in the 1970s. This was our family home created in a field with a vision and wonderful memories. It is solid and ready for a new family to make it their home.
