Acreage in square feet. Lavalette House built for a French sea captain by an Italian architect using Spanish motifs . Alexander Lavalette's townhouse, now know as 1829, is one of the largest residences in King's quarter including hand painted Moroccan tiles, a stained glass window by William Comfort Tiffany called In Search of the Promised Land. The historical kitchen which was turned into a bar is unusual in that it was built inside the main house. Standing in front of the hotel you can still see Captain's AL initials in the wrought iron of the upstairs balcony. The house was a private residence until 1900 when it opened as a hotel. Very famous people came there to play Backgammon and enjoy the specially crafted cocktails and gourmet meals,
