MICHIGAN OTTER RIVER LOG CABIN FOR SALE!! This 20-Acre wooded parcel has about 600-Feet of frontage on the North Branch of the Otter River. You can enjoy the scenic beauty of the water front, canoe, kayak, fish, and swim right at your front door!! The property is located in Laird Township, in central Houghton County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Otter River Watershed spans three counties - Houghton, Baraga, and Ontonagon. The majority of the land in this watershed is privately owned. Forestry is the primary land use, with farming and other uses taking place on the non-forested lands. Most of the waters which empty into the North Branch flow in an easterly direction initially then turn south as they join with the Otter River. The West Branch, like the North Branch, originates with many small tributaries and intermittent streams. The small streams that join with the West Branch of the river initially flow south until they meet up with the West Branch where they then turn northeast. The stream length of the Otter, including the North Branch and West Branches is 50.9 miles. The West Branch is about 6.2 miles long. The West Branch is a class II(IV) (Difficult) section of whitewater. The Pike Lake Road to Hazel Swamp Road section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This stretch has enough mileage, to be perfect for a one day trip. This location is also an historic fish stocking site. The West Branch supports a fair brook trout fishery and steelhead also ascend it. There are caddis hatches on this stream, however most of it is not open enough for pleasant fly fishing. Local anglers are predominately bait fishermen and because of the clarity of the water they are most successful during and after periods of rainfall and high water. Brook trout up to 10 inches are common, and a few brookies over 14 inches are also caught - but due to limited access and overabundant cover, they receive little fishing pressure. A half mile to the west of the property is access to thousands of acres of the 440,000-Acre Copper County State Forest. The State manages these lands for reforestation. But in addition to pulpwood logging, this land is open to the public for recreation, such as camping, fishing, and hunting. Ruffed grouse, and Whitetail deer hunting is very popular in this area. There is access to the main North-South Winona-Alston Multi-Use State Trail just a few miles away. It is popularly believed that Amish Homesteaders harvested the logs, and used them to build the cabin on this property. The horizontal logs are round on the exterior and interior (with sawed flat tops and bottoms), and the building corners feature the butt-and-pass style of corners. The interior ceiling features common purlin framing with a top ridge beam braced to the rafters. The ceiling sheathing boards are natural wood. There is a metal roof on the cabin, as well as on the other buildings on the property. The gable ends of the cabin are... Continued In Addendum
