Plain and simply, Forest City is the area in the Northwest corner of Wantagh, which straddles both the Southern State and the Wantagh State Parkways and contains over 1000 homes constructed between 1950 and 1955. The map below shows the streets that are contained in our community. Click on map to enlarge. The three sections of Forest City encompasses 1,002 homes. The name, "Forest City", was selected by the original developer apparently in recognition of the forest that covered much of the area before construction started. The large trees that now line the streets should be credited to the early efforts of the Garden Club in arranging for homeowners to have either pin oaks or sweet gum trees planted for $15 apiece. Construction of Forest City homes began in early spring 1950, starting on Logan Road, proceeding up Barrie Avenue to Douglas, then continuing down Douglas Avenue to Jerusalem Avenue. From there, construction moved to the Northeast Section, and then returning to complete the other streets in the South Section.
